Sophomore Rose Morel named USCAA Women's Cross Country Student Athlete of the Year
UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Penn State Scranton sophomore Rose Morel was named USCAA Student-Athlete of the Year this weekend at USCAA Cross Country National Championships at Penn State Fayette.
Morel, a second-year runner for Women's Cross Country, is a Human Development and Family Studies major. She is also is a positive influence in her campus community, on her team and in the Athletic Department. She is an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council on campus serving as the women's sports representative at the conference level for the PSUAC SAAC. Only in her third month on the conference council, Rose has made an impact by helping create publicity and generate ideas for the whole conference, including developing and designing social media posts for SAAC Spirit Week.
Recently, she was also chosen as the HDFS student senator on campus by her program advisor. As a student senator, Rose represents all students in her major in student government legislation and on campus. She is also a member of the HDFS club and very active in the campus chorale. In the classroom, Rose boasts a 3.9 GPA and has been on the Dean's list her first two semesters so far. She is a USCAA National All-Academic and PSUAC All-Academic team member and PSUAC John Fritz Sportsmanship Award recipient.
In addition, Rose is a staple in the Athletic Department serving as the student assistant for publicity and communications. Rose is behind many of the popular social media and web posts highlighting and celebrating our teams and student-athletes throughout the year. After a late season injury last fall, Rose has persevered to return to the course and serve as a cheerleader and motivator for the rest of her squad and female athletes on campus.
