Annual Pink Game Raising Awareness for Breast Cancer and Autism
DUNMORE, PA - This year's annual "Pink Out" basketball game will fitingly take place on Valentine's Day when the Penn State Scranton Men's and Women's Basketball teams host PSUAC opponent PSU Mont Alto. This years event, which the Scranton Lady Lions historically use to raise awareness for breast cancer, will have another special cause added. The Scranton Lions teamed up with the women's squad to also raise Autism Awareness during the Friday night home game.
In Univerisity Park, Penn State Lady Lions Basketball is a unified force in the fight against breast cancer with Pennsyvania Pink Zone, a community out reach effort whose mission is to unite central Pennsylvania in the fight against breast cancer by mobilizing resources to improve lives. Penn State Scranon Lady Lions wanted to support those efforts and over the last decade have hosted an annual awareness game in February. This year the women's team is asking fans to donate directly to PA Pink Zone. The men's team joined forces in 2025 by adding Autism Awareness to the event and asking fans to donate to Austism Speaks, an organization that is dedicated to creating an inclusive world for indivisuals with autism through advocacy, collaboration and partnerships. Both causes have personal meaning for student-athletes, coaches and staff as well as many fans and community members. For Scranton Lions head coach Troy Jackson, choosing the teams cause is important to him having worked directly supporting special needs youth in education.
The games, originally set for Saturday was changed to Valentine's Day in anticipation of winter weather and women will tip-off at 5:00 pm followed men at 7:00 pm. In adidtion, Jaiden Wiggins, four year player and current team captain, is only 24 points away from a career 1,000 that we will be counting down! Next week, both teams play their final home game of the year celebrating seniors as they host PSU York on Tuesday, February 18.
