Varcoe and Wyche lead teams in first week of 2022 competition

Courtney Varcoe steps up big for Lady Lions on the road
 
This week's female Player of the Week is, starting forward, Courtney Varcoe:
 
On Thursday night in the Ladv Lions' first PSUAC contest of the spring semester PSU Scranton hit the road to take on PSU
Brandywine. Varcoe, a senior Nursing major, stepped up big for the road squad leading Scranton with a dominate, 18 point, 15 rebound double-double performance. Courtney shot 7-16 from the floor, collecting eight offensive boards and seven on the defensive end of the floor in 31 minutes of play. This season the stalwart senior averages just under a double-double per game with 8.7 points and 10.2 rebounds a game while also averaging just under 30 minutes a game at 28.8 minutes for Scranton.
 
Salim Wyche drops big numbers in first week back in action 
 
 
This week's male Player of the Week is, starting guard, Salim Wyche:
 
Last weekend the Scranton Lions hosted their first contest of the spring semester against non-conference Clarks Summit Univsersity. Wyche, a senior Business major, complimented leading scorer, captain Matt Dessoye's 29 point performance with a 22 point, 10 board double-double, including a clutch 3-point shot to send the game into overtime. Wyche, who shot 50% from the floor in 38 minutes of play, helped propel the Scranton Lions to a 75-70 win. 
 
On the road later that week at Penn State Brandywine, Wyche poured in another stellar performance, 25 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals hitting on 5 of 10 3-pointers in 34 minutes on the floor. Although Scranton fell short in the second half, Wyche kept his foot on the pedal, shooting 10-21 on the floor and leading all scorers for the game.
