Dessoye hits 2,000 and Powell secures last win of the season

Senior guard Matt Dessoye put up big numbers for Scranton in their final games of the year last week including scoring his career 2,000th point to wrap up his collegiate performance at Penn State.

Dessoye tallied 46 points, 6 assists and 6 steals in two games against conference rivals, Penn State Wilkes Barre, shooting 48% from the floor, 50% from the three and 90% from the charity stripe. In Thursday's regular season finale at Wilkes Barre, sitting just 24 points shy of his collegiate career 2,000th point, Dessoye hit this major milestone in style, hitting a 3-pointer from the top of the key, ending the hard fought game with 24 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Scranton drew Wilkes Barre in the first round of PSUAC playoffs on Saturday, where Matt added 22 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals for Scranton.

Although Scranton is out of playoff contention, Dessoye, who led his team all year in all offensive categories, ranks top 5 in the PSUAC in points per game, free throw percentage and assists.

Senior starting guard Danielle Powell made sure her career on the court ended on a high note last week as she recorded a double-double against PSUAC rival, Penn State Wilkes-Barre in the final regular season game of the year, helping push Scranton to a narrow victory 53-52.  It was Powell's and-one with a minute and half on the clock with that positioned Scranton for the comeback win on the road. Powell ended with 13 points and 12 boards, going 7-9 on the free throw line in 29 minutes of play. 

 
In the first round of PSUAC playoffs on Saturday, Danielle netted another 14 points and pulled down 6 rebounds while going 3-4 from the charity stripe. Danielle was a four-year starter for the Lady Lions and the campuses only current 4-sport athlete, having played women's soccer, volleyball and softball.
