Week 7: Stephen Torres
Dunmore, PA – This week’s PSU Scranton’s Campus Player of the Week is Men's Cross Country sophomore, Stephen Torres. Torres, a transfer who came to Penn State Scranton from Marywood University, has proved a consistent first finisher for the Scranton Lions this season. Last season at Marywood, Stephen placed Second Team All-Atlantic East and finished eighth at Atlantic East Championships in 32:01. He also competed in the 2018 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships finishing in 31:39. This weekend, Torres pulled out a stellar performance in less than ideal conditions at Penn State Fayette’s Invitational, in Uniontown, PA. With heavy wind, rains and chilly temperatures, Stephen once again led the Lions on a difficult Fayette course, finishing first for Scranton with a season best time of 32:17. Among the PSUAC teams in attendance, Torres rounded out the top 10 behind leading Penn State Fayette on their home course. Torres’s performance helped earn the team a PSU Fayette Invitational Award for top visiting PSUAC team. Stephen, along with his seven team members, are heading to PSUAC Championships next Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Penn State Mont Alto. Producing top times so far this season, Stephen looks to earn himself a PSUAC All-Conference Award during his second visit to the Norlo Park course this semester.
