Week 12: Rob McAndrew
DUNMORE, PA – This week’s Penn State Scranton campus player of the week is sophomore guard, Rob McAndrew. On Tuesday night Scranton hosted Brandywine for their first home conference contest of the 2019-20 season. The first half of the game was tight until Brandywine started pulling away with 2:41 left in the half, going into the intermission leading Scranton 53-44. McAndrew led Scranton with 12 points, eight rebounds, one assist and four steals through the first 20 minutes of play. Rob shot 4-7 from the floor, 2-5 from deep and 2-2 from the free throw line. Brandywine increased their lead to 12 by the 17:45 mark in the second half before Rob McAndrew led Scranton on the comeback trail. McAndrew added another 16 points, six rebounds, one assist and four steals to cap the 102-97 come from behind win for Scranton. Rob finished the game with a career-high double-double, 28 points, 14 boards, two assists and eight steals giving Scranton their first conference win of the season.
On Saturday, McAndrew continued his impressive play as Scranton hosted the defending USCAA DII National Champions, Penn State Wilkes Barre. In a game that featured five ties and four lead changes, saw Scranton trailing 54-44 at halftime with Rob leading all scorers with 18 first half points on 5-10 shooting from the field, 2-5 from downtown and 6-8 from the charity stripe, adding four boards for the Lions. The Mountain Lions from Wilkes Barre built up a lead as big as 22 points over the home Lions, who chipped away until the buzzer. Rob McAndrew led all scorers with a second consecutive 28 point performance along with six rebounds in the 106-91 loss. This week, McAndrew led Scranton to a 1-1 record with 56 points and 20 rebounds in two games of work.
