Tee Off for a Cause: The James D. Gallagher Memorial Golf Tournament Returns Sept. 19
Tobyhanna, PA — Penn State Scranton Athletics invites golfers, alumni, and community supporters to hit the links for a great cause at the Annual James D. Gallagher Memorial Golf Tournament, returning to the beautiful Pocono Farms Country Club on Friday, September 19.
Now in its third year under the direction of the athletic department, this premier event isn't just about golf—it's about fueling the dreams of Penn State Scranton's 13 varsity programs. Proceeds from the tournament directly support student-athlete travel, championship competition, spring training trips, and unforgettable team experiences that shape both athletic and personal growth.
Last year's outing brought together over 20 spirited teams of alumni, friends, and supporters for a day of competition, camaraderie, and community pride. This year promises even more excitement, with an 18-hole PGA-level course as your stage and contests like Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, and the always crowd-favorite Marshmallow Drive.
Throughout the day, golfers and guests can try their luck with raffles, 50/50 drawings, and mulligan purchases before gathering for a banquet lunch and awards ceremony—where the day's top performers will take home bragging rights and prizes.
The tournament honors the legacy of Dr. James D. Gallagher, former Penn State Scranton CEO, whose dedication to education and community is celebrated through this event.
Whether you're swinging a club, sponsoring a hole, or donating prizes, your involvement directly impacts local student-athletes—helping them compete, travel, and represent Northeast Pennsylvania with pride.
Come for the golf. Stay for the community. Leave knowing you made a difference!
