Jackson brings experience and expertise to Scranton basketball
DUNMORE, Pa. – Penn State Scranton Athletics recently announced Troy Jackson, a former division 1 standout, has been named Head Men's Basketball Coach.
After serving this past year as an assistant coach for the squad, Jackson will take the reigns for the 2024-2025 season, bringing with him decades of experience as a player, coach and educator.
Before joining the Scranton Lions, Jackson played professional basketball for 12 years in Australia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic and Canada where he earned five professional titles and three MVP's. He also saw success as a coach and mentor in collegiate, professional and youth basketball.
Jackson was instrumental in the development of an expansion team in the ABA (American Basketball Association) when he served as CEO of the Las Vegas Dream in 2022. Before making the entrepreneurial jump to team owner, Jackson served as head coach of the Bobcats from Bryant Stratton Rochester, a division 1 USCAA member school, where he also supported the athletic department as Sports Information Coordinator and Admissions Counselor.
Extending his achievements at the helm of a program, Jackson led the turnaround of the Cape Breton Highlanders of the NBLC (National Basketball League of Canada), a professional basketball team from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Under Jackson's leadership, the Highlanders improved from a previous 3-win season to becoming conference championship contenders, notching an impressive 23 wins.
Committed to empowering others, Jackson is the founder of MOAM (Man on a Mission), a unique intersection sports, education, and mentorship. The program is designed to develop athletic skills while emphasizing the importance of academic excellence, character building, and sportsmanship. Jackson's resume also includes head coach of the Rochester Razorsharks, a PBL (Premier Basketball League) team in upstate New York where he once served as a feature player leading the franchise to four championships, three-straight as a player and one as a coach.
A University of Maryland-Eastern Shore and Alcorn State alum, Jackson led Alcorn State in minutes and points per game during his two seasons with the Braves. As a junior he led the Braves in steals, assists and rebounds putting his name in the record books for most points in a single season.
Jackson will look to cultivate a culture of teamwork, discipline and dedication on and off the hardwood as he steps into his new role at Penn State Scranton this season.
