Volleyball notches first win of season on the road at Hazleton

Hazleton, Pa. - The Scranton Lady Lions topped Hazleton Wednesday night on the road, 3-0, in their first win of the season. 

Scranton took the lead early on with a 6-0 run led by sophomore setter Alison Marshman who served for three of her five aces on the night in the opening set, which ended in favor of the vistors 25-6.  

Hazleton fought back in sets two and three, however, with Allesandra Banta serving a pair of aces early on in set two that helped the home team earn an advantage. Scranton fought back, reclaiming the lead, with kills from four different players throughout the remainder of set two and ultimately eanring the win in set two 25-18. 

The final set was a fair match-up, with both teams having runs of their own, with a Hazelton service error lending way to a game ending kill by junior Sheylla Romero to seal the three set sweep. 

Alison Marshman led the way for Scranton with 3 kills, 18 assists, 5 aces and 6 digs while senior Danielle Powell contributed eight kills.  Sophomore Keida McElroy added 5 kills, 1 assist and 7 digs while freshman Brianna Smith added 5 kills, 1 assist and 1 dig in the PSUAC match-up. 

Scranton travels again this weekend, making a stop in nearby Lehman to take on PSUAC rival Penn State Wilkes Barre on Saturday at 11:00 am.
