Cross Country Heads to Nationals

Two weeks ago the PSUAC Cross Country Championships were held at Penn State Scranton. As the ladies lined up on the starting line the tension was high, each team hoping to win the championship, automatically advancing them to the national championship meet. The Penn State Scranton Lady Lions would come out on top extending their reign to seven consecutive PSUAC Cross Country Championship titles. Leading the ladies in the win was freshman, Kim Gaik who finished 7th with a time of 29:56, followed by sophomore, Kerry Wittich in 10th with a time of 30:48. Senior, Breanna Toolan would finish 13th in 32:32 and sophomore, Marissa Rinaldi would finish 14th with a time of 33:54. Freshman, Angela Altier, sophomore, Elizabeth Martino, sophomore, Elizabeth Edgar, freshman, Erica Sidorowicz, freshman, Aubrey Edstrom and freshman, Bobbi Biefeldt would finish respectively 15th, 16th, 17th, 24th, and 27th. With this win the women earned a trip to the USCAA National Championship meet in Syracuse, NY. Also with the win Marissa Rinaldi, Breanna Toolan, and Kerry Wittich earned spots as 2nd Team All-Conference Members, while Kim Gaik earned 1st Team All-Conference honors.

 

The men would take to the course next also hoping to clinch the title and a trip to nationals. The Penn State Scranton Lions would run their way into second place and freshman, John Ciccone would take home second overall, a 1st Team All-Conference honor and a trip to compete in the USCAA National Championship meet in Syracuse, NY. Leading the men was freshman, John Ciccone in 2nd with a time of 30:14, followed by freshman, Drew Evans in 17th with a time of 33:53. Junior, Chas Bryant would finish 18th in 34:01, and sophomore, Jamie Dodgson would finish 21st with a time of 35:01. Junior, Sean Sweeney, freshman, Jeffery Escalante, sophonmore, Shane Hart, sophomore Jeremy Huggins, and junior, Michael Dorio would finish respectively 25th, 28th, 31st, 32nd, and 33rd.
