Lady Lions Soccer Drops One to Lehigh Carbon

In a Tuesday afternoon home matinee on the pitch, the Penn State Scranton Lady Lions soccer squad fell to Lehigh Carbon Community College by the score of 11-0. Lehigh Carbon tallied an impressive eight goals in the first half of play and added a trio in the final 45-minutes of regulation to secure their dominant road triumph.  

Lehigh Carbon was led on offense by the stellar play of Avery Lane who scored her team's first four goals in the first half, as she found the back of the net at 4:46, 6:30, 21:40, and 24:28 marks respectively. Then at 29:18 Yelina Horn scored unassisted to up her team's advantage to 5-0. Sophia Lear, assisted by Gianna Hilt, inflated her club's lead to 6-0 at the 35:53 mark. Then Hilt tallied a goal of her own at 38:05 to make it 7-0. Finally, Emily Houser scored unassisted right before the first half buzzer sounded at 44:28 to give her team an awe-inspiring 8-0 advantage at the break in action.  

In the second half of play, Maura Walker kicked-off the scoring at 61:38 to make it a 9-0 ball game. Then Lear scored her second goal of the contest at the 73:03 mark to increase her team's lead to 10-0. Last but certainly not least, Alezza Molina scored unassisted at 79:34 to give her squad the 11-0 advantage they would enjoy when the game's final buzzer sounded. 

For the Lions from Scranton their one shot in the matchup came off the foot of their stand-out sophomore forward Jasmine Bender 

In terms of the goal tending, Scranton split the game having freshman Corinna Matute play 45-minutes in net saving 11 out of the 19 shots on goal. Meanwhile, Lehigh Carbon had Zoe Seltzer between the pipes, as she earned the shutout victory while playing the entire 90-minutes in the showdown.  

Now head coach Amber Smith and her Penn State Scranton Lady Lions soccer team will look to bounce back from this tough defeat and capture a hard earned win when they next host conference foe Penn State Mont Alto this upcoming Saturday afternoon starting at 12 noon.
