Women's Soccer Wins Road Opener at Penn State Beaver

Beaver Falls, PA- Penn State Scranton Women's Soccer team brought home their first conference victory of the season in their road opener against Penn State Beaver today.

With ten returning players, the team has experience on the pitch, including senior captain forward Rachel Lewis, who netted two of Scranton's goals in the second half, finding her way through the Beaver defense. Junior forward Rachel Butler also found the net late in the second half, ultimately sealing the win in the Lady Lions first official game in almost two years.

"Our passing was stellar," Head Coach Matt Nied commented post-game," a great give and go game to advance down the field."  With the addition of new assistant coach Amber Smith, former Keystone College Women's Soccer forward, to the staff the team has been putting in work at practice, including newcommers Avianna Pugliese and Maria Keifer.  "Our two freshman stepped up big both in the midfield and on defense," said Nied, "they are going to be clutch players for us this year."

Women's Soccer hits the road again this Tuesday to visit non-conference Bucks County Community College.
