Scranton Women’s Soccer Sees First Post-Season Play Since Programs Inception

Dunmore, Pa. – The Penn State Scranton women's soccer team will travel to Penn State Brandywine on Saturday, October 26, 2019, marking the first time the team will see post-season play since the program began in 2015. The semifinal match against Penn State Brandywine in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs will kick off at 7:30 pm at West Chester United Turf Fields.  PSU Brandywine (8-7) is the No. 1 seed after finishing the regular season with a 6-0 record in PSUAC play. Scranton, the No. 4 seed, finished the regular season with a record of 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the PSUAC.

Senior forward Jordan Peters and junior wing Rachel Lewis lead the Scranton offense this season with 7 and 6 goals, respectively, ranking them both in the top 10 in the PSUAC. Sophomore goalkeeper Trinity Gammaitoni backs up the Scranton defense, ranking 4th in the PSUAC in overall saves with 83 in the regular season. Junior defender Abby Mecca has also proved a force to be reckoned with, stopping offenders across the board during PSUAC play. Scranton traveled to Brandywine earlier this season, suffering a 7-0 loss on the road in September. Since then, the team has picked up offensively, increasing communication and returning some injured players.

Saturday's other semifinal match-up showcases second-seeded Penn State Mont Alto hosting third-seeded Penn State Hazleton. The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game Wednesday, Oct. 30 on the main campus of Penn State University.
