Lewis leads Scranton passed Mont Alto, 71-64, for first win of season

DUNMORE, PA – On Tuesday Penn State Mont Alto traveled to take on Penn State Scranton in some late semester basketball action. The first half of play was a tight contest as both teams vied to take the lead and momentum into the locker rooms. Neither side wanting to give up a sizable lead to the other, they battled shot for shot as Mont Alto led the Lady Lions 30-26 at the half.

Scranton struck first in the third quarter on a jumper by junior guard, Danielle Powell but Mont Alto fired right back adding two of their own re-establishing a four-point lead. With just 00:31 remaining in the third quarter, junior guard, Rachel Lewis laid one home to give Scranton a 43-42 lead that they would not relinquish. In the fourth quarter Lewis put the team on her back hitting 4-5 shots from the floor, going 3-3 from three and 2-2 on the free throw line, ultimately sealing the game for Scranton giving them their first win of the season, 71-64. Rachel Lewis finished the game with a game-high 26 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds. Lewis shot 8-15 from the field, 3-6 from deep and 7-10 from the charity stripe. Also adding to the win, junior forward, Jess Berger had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards and sophomore forward, Tabitha Boyd added 10 points for Scranton.
