Hazleton downs Lady Lions, 77-67

DUNMORE, PA- Penn State Scranton hit the court against Penn State Hazleton to kick off conference play in the new year. The women took the floor first as both teams hoped to improve on their records and move up in the eastern conference standings. The first half was a close contest as both teams battled back and forth but Hazleton headed into the locker room with a narrow seven point lead over Scranton, 34-27. 

 

The third quarter saw a serge from Scranton as they would outscore the visitors 21-19. Following a high-scoring third quarter both teams put on a push to be the last team standing and in the end Hazleton held off Scranton to pull out the 77-67 win to open conference play. 

 

Junior guard, Danielle Powell led all scorers with 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists for Scranton. Also contributing to the win, junior guard, Rachel Lewis poured in a double-double, 15 points and 10 boards and freshman guard, Alyssa Cuono added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. 

 

For Hazleton, Alexa Clark scored a team high, 17 points and Katura McCorkle added 16 points.
