Women Hit Hazelton After Halftime

Our Lady Lions made PSWS history last night as they sealed their fifth win of the season during their Pink Zone game at home against Penn State Hazelton.  The ladies donned pink t-shirts to show their support for breast cancer awareness as t-shirt sales of the shirts by the PSWS bookstore helped bring in funds for the cause.

The first few minutes did not look promising for Scranton as Hazelton rallied to lead by ten after only a few minutes.  Then Jessica Segila made her first of what would end up to be 5-5 three-point shots of the game to set a new tone.  Hazelton missed two shots in a row followed by a turnover to give Danielle Segila a chance to make the next three-pointer.  Kim Madensky then followed suit sinking a three of her own and in minutes Scranton was back in the game.

Taylor Cannon, 40, of Hazelton, lead scorer for the team with a double-double 20 points and 12 rebounds, took control back right before half time with a few baskets before the clock ran out.  At the half our ladies were down by 6 with the 40-34 score.

After giving out free pink t-shirts supporting breast cancer awareness to the fans at half time to show their thanks for the support the ladies wasted no time getting back in the game.  Jess Segilia turned from three point shooter in to three point assister  after ending her steak with 26 points for the game when she handed the ball off to Mar Tsakonas who sank two threes and ended up with 17 points for the game.  Kim Madensky closed the gap for good with a two ending up with 13 points in the game and in the last minute Mar was fouled scoring the last two points.  The final score was 66-62.

Katie Flynn, 21, for the Lady Lions played a great season developing her game as the team traveled to and from Scranton for the past two semesters.  Katie, who  will be heading to University Park next fall and the ladies will miss her greatly!

The Lady Lions and the Athletic Department would like to thank Evelyn and Diane from the PSWS Bookstore for all their help with Pink Zone night !!!
