The Penn State Scranton Athletic's Department is excited to welcome local golf pro, Jonathan Kulas, to lead its first varsity golf program since 1976.

Kulas, the current Golf Pro at Pinecrest Lake Golf Club & Country Club in Mount Pocono, PA, brings 10 years of coaching experience with him to Penn State Scranton.  A Dickson City native, Jonathan began his passion for golf at an early age. "I played my first round of golf with my father as a 12-year-old. Since then, I have been in love with the game and am always striving to improve as a player and a coach," Kulas noted.

At Marywood, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Jonathan, along with fellow student golf enthusiasts, began a Club Golf Team in 2006.  Today, Marywood's now-varsity golf team is comprised of 8 members and has reached the NCAA DIII National Championships. While pursuing his degree, Kulas began his professional career in golf as an Assistant Golf Professional at Eagle Rock Golf and Ski Resort, Pocono Manor Golf Club, and Mount Airy Golf Club.

After earning a Master of Science in Sport Management and Leadership from Keystone College, Kulas earned the title of Head Golf Pro and Assistant General Manager at Pinecrest Lake Golf Club & Country Club. At the collegiate level, Jonathan served as the Assistant Men's and Women's Golf Coach at Misericordia University, the Assistant and Head Men's Basketball Coach at Johnson College of Technology, and the Assistant Men's and Women's Basketball Coach at Marywood University.

In addition, Jonathan teaches instructional golf lessons at Riverfront Sports, not to mention his extended experience with weekly short game clinics for hotel guests and corporate outings. When commenting on his outlook for PSU Scranton's upcoming first competitive PSUAC golf season Jonathan said, " It is my mission as a head golf coach to help each student-athlete not only reach their individual goals but also to create lasting memories and enjoy the beauty of the life-long game of golf."

The golf team will be comprised of both male and female student-athletes and will begin competing in the PSUAC (Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference) in the fall of 2019.  For more information or if you are a PSU Scranton student interested in joining our team, contact Athletic Director, Jeff Mallas, at 570-963-2611 or jrm9@psu.edu
