Dig Pink Win Over PSU Lehigh Valley Culminates Volleyball Season at Scranton

The Penn State Women's Volleyball team culminated their season last night with a victory at home over Penn State Lehigh Valley during Dig Pink, a game to raise funds for breast cancer awareness.  The PSU Scranton Lady Lions earned the win 3-1 in four sets with Lehigh Valley and finished out their season 4-12 in the PSUAC.

The team raised over $100 for the Side-Out Foundation, a foundation that raises funds for breast cancer research in conjunction with volleyball teams across the country.  Through a basket raffle and Dig Pink t-shirt sales the team helped contribute to the cause.

Penn State Scranton earned the first set win 25-19 but Lehigh Valley answered back in the secon 25-13.  In the next two sets the Lady Lions went back and forth, Scranton escaping with the third and fourth set victories, 25-15.  Emily Tavaris (3) earned 14 points for Scranton after 2 kills and 12 service aces.  Julia Tofilska (15) and Hannah Radkiewicz (14) earned 8 points each with 3 kills.  Starters Kayla Cavanaugh (23) and Danielle Segilia (1) finished their senior season with a victory.

Assistant Coach Eric McLain said, "We suffered some injuries early on this season that set us back but the girls stayed strong and fought every game with only two previous volleyball players. I am proud of them and have high hopes for next season when the team is back together."

The volleyball team will await the announcement of the PSUAC All-Conference Awards post-season.
