In a Tuesday night road conference showdown, the Penn State Scranton Lady Lions basketball squad dropped a 70-41 decision to rival Penn State Brandywine. With the defeat, Scranton sees their overall record move to 3-5 and they are now 0-3 in their all-important league play schedule.

The hometown Lions from Brandywine jumped out to an early advantage and never looked back, as they outscored Scranton 21-14 in the first quarter, 18-10 in the second, 18-7 in the third stanza, and 13-10 in the fourth and final frame to ensure their dominant 29 point triumph when the game's final buzzer sounded.

Scranton had one lone player put up a stalwart double digit scoring performance in the contest, as freshman Lexi Corby set the pace offensively for her club. Corby scored a game-high 19 points, made a three pointer, went 6-9 from the charity stripe, to go along with her eight rebounds, a trio of steals, an assist, and a block to boot in her stellar 37-minutes of play. Honorable mention also goes to sophomore Megan Gatto and senior Alahnna Balbach who had solid ball games as well. Gatto just missed out on scoring in double figures, as she tallied nine points, eight boards, a pair of blocks, and a steal in her 24-minutes of game action. Last but certainly not least, Balbach played all 40-minutes of the contest and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds on the evening.

Meanwhile, Brandywine had a hat trick of players score in double digits, as senior guard Amanda Floyd, freshman forward Athena Brombacher, and junior guard Anaiyah Allen led the way on offense. Floyd notched a double-double with her team-high 18 points and 11 boards, shooting an efficient 8-14 from the floor, made 2-4 of her shots from beyond the arc, to go along with three assists, and a steal in her 26-minutes on the court. Brombacher also had a double-double with her rock solid 12 points and 10 rebounds, shot 6-11 from the field, and added a steal, and a block for good measure. Finally, Allen filled up the stat sheet with a well-rounded overall performance putting up 10 points, eight boards, a whopping seven steals on defense, and four assists in her 28-minutes on the floor.

Now long-time head coach Tom McIntyre and his 3-5 Penn State Scranton Lady Lions basketball team will look to bounce back and snap their five game losing streak when they next go on the road to take on local conference foe Penn State Wilkes-Barre this upcoming Saturday afternoon, with a scheduled matinee tip-off time of 1pm.
