Scranton Lady Lions Basketball Falls on the Road to York

After a long 13 day lay-off from playing any basketball games, the Penn State Scranton Lady Lions basketball squad returned to the court in their 82-25 road defeat to conference foe Penn State York on Tuesday night. With the loss, Scranton sees their overall record fall to 0-7 and in the all-important league games they now stand at 0-4.

The hometown York ball club got off to a red hot start and never looked back, as they outscored  Scranton 21-3 in the first quarter, 25-7 in the second quarter, 15-8 in the third period, and in the fourth and final frame, 21-7, as they coasted to their dominant 57 point victory.

The road warriors from Scranton were led on offense by their stalwart senior captain Sam Collins, who provided a solid low post presence all game long, scoring a team-high 10 points, to go along with seven rebounds, a block, and an assist, while playing the entire 40 minutes of game action. Notable mention also goes to Alicia Gagner, as she put on a fine performance on the night as well, scoring six points on a highly efficient 3-6 shooting from the field, while grabbing a game-high 15 boards in the contest.

Meanwhile, on the Penn State York side of things, they were led on offense with their talented four players who scored in double figures, as junior Jayla Brown, freshman Jada Harmon, junior Desi Garcia-Herandez, and freshman Carolyn Pospichal set the pace. Brown scored a game-high 17 points on an impressive 8-10 shooting from the field, to go along with her seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals during her 23 minutes of stellar play. Harmon came off the bench and provided a solid spark for her ball club, as she tallied 14 points, six boards, five steals, three assists, and a block, while shooting a lights out 6-7 from the field and connecting on two of her three attempts from beyond the arc. Hernandez also came off the bench and provided a quality effort, as she put up 13 points, five rebounds, four steals, and an assist, while drilling in three out of her eight attempts from three point land. Last but certainly not least, Pospichal just missed out on a double-double, as she notched 12 points and nine boards, while shooting an efficient 5-10 from the field in her 20 minutes on the court.

Now head coach Tom McIntyre and his Penn State Scranton Lady Lions basketball team will look to bounce back and capture their first win of the young season, when they travel on the road this upcoming Saturday, December 3rd, to take on nearby conference rival Penn State Wilkes-Barre, with tip-off scheduled for a 1pm matinee. Meanwhile, head coach Tory Harvey and his Penn State York squad, who saw their overall record improve to 5-3 and 2-2 in the crucial league contests after their home victory over Scranton snapped their mini two game losing streak, will look to continue their winning ways this Friday evening at 6pm, when they go on the road to take on conference foe Penn State Fayette.
