Lady Lions get first conference win of 2017, 66-51 over GA

Saturday, January 14, the Penn State Scranton Lady Lions (1-10 overall, 1-5 conference) hosted Penn State Greater Allegheny (4-8 overall, 2-4 conference) in their second straight day of PSUAC conference play for 2017. The visitors from Greater Allegheny started the first quarter strong with a 7-0 run before freshman, powerhouse Monique Hicks scored 6 straight points to bring Scranton within 1. The ladies were not done there as they capped off an 11-0 run of their own with a 3 pointer by junior, guard Molly Burke and 2 made free throws by junior, forward Mikaela Brutico, giving PSU Scranton an 11-9 lead. Junior, guard Sara Moss hit 2 consecutive 3 pointers to end the first quarter with Scranton leading the visitors 18-12. The second quarter featured a lot of back and forth play until PSU Scranton built a 10-point lead going into the locker room at half time. At the half PSU Scranton was led by Sara Moss with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist, Monique Hicks with 9 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal and Jordan Peters with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Mandi Johnston led PSU Greater Allegheny at the break with 13 points.

In the third quarter, PSU Scranton's Jordan Peters began to heat up adding six more points helping the Lady Lions maintain an 8-point lead going into the final period, 42-34. PSU Scranton stayed hot in the final quarter nailing a barrage of shots from all over the floor to put the game out of reach of the visitors building a 17-point lead and clinching the victory, 66-51 capping off PSU Scranton's first conference win of the season. Leading the Lady Lions in the winning effort Jordan Peters netted 28 points, 9 rebounds and 1 block. Sara Moss also added 13 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists and Monique Hicks had 11 points, 7 rebounds and 1 steal. PSU Greater Allegheny was led by Mandi Johnston with 20 points and Ronnie Upsher with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks.
