Penn State Worthington Scranton to host Annual Pink Zone game

 By Victoria Sheridan

DUNMORE, Pa. — Penn State Worthington Scranton's Women's Basketball team and the campus bookstore will host the 10th anniversary of the Annual Pink Zone charity during the women's basketball game against Penn State Fayette on February 12, 2016. Tipoff will be at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Building.

Pink Zone at Penn State University helps to raise awareness for breast cancer research. A portion of the funds from the sale of special pink t-shirts, along with the donations collected from the game, will go to the Pennsylvania Pink Zone fund.

During halftime, the women's basketball team and the bookstore participate in fun festivities by holding a raffle of PSU Pink Zone prizes. There is no cost for the tickets, but donations to the Pink Zone fund are more than welcome. Come show your support by cheering on the Lady Lions in pink attire. For more information, please contact Sara Rinkunas,Coordinator of Athletics, at slr5003@psu.edu.

Pink Zone began in the summer of 2006 by Lady Lion Head Coach Rene Portland wanting to use the $5,000 gift they received to attract more fans to the women's basketball games. Portland thought of a Think Pink game. By February 2007, the Lady Lions and the opposing team met in pink uniforms at the Bryce Jordan Center to honor breast cancer survivors during halftime. A short while later, The Women's Basketball Coaches Association, developed a new logo and catch phrase for the cause: Pink Zone. PSU Scranton adopted the same mission and continues to promote awareness each year during basketball season.
