Bio

Mar Tsakonas is in her 10th year as a member of the coaching staff at Penn State Scranton. This will be her fifth year as the head coach following a five year stint as the assistant coach for the softball program. She also serves as the Athletic Programs Specialist for the department. Mar is a 2015 Penn State graduate with a degree in English and a minor in Psychology.

During her time as a student she was a member of the women’s basketball, softball, women’s cross country and volleyball teams at Penn State Scranton. As a member of the softball team Mar was named a team captain as a freshman and maintained that title through her senior year. She also served as a captain on the basketball and volleyball teams at times during her career at Scranton. During her senior campaign on the Women's Basketball team she was a starter and contributed to the program's first playoff berth in program history along the way to helping the team to its 2013 PSUAC Northern Division regular season title.

Coach Mar also worked at Penn State Scranton in the Athletic Department for 5 years as a work study and game day management. Two seasons in a row Mar helped coach the softball team to the program’s first playoff berths in 11 years in 2015 and 2016. Mar also served as a member of the Women's Basketball coaching staff in 2017. With a focus on rebuilding the program Coach Mar looks to bring the program back to the post-season competitively in the near future. Strong ties to the softball program as a former player and five years as an assistant fuels Mar to improve the program and bring it back to competitive softball in the PSUAC, USCAA and the local community as well.
