Men's Soccer Enters Post-Season for the First Time in a Decade

Dunmore, Pa. – The Penn State Scranton men's soccer team will travel to Penn State New Kensington Wednesday, October 23, 2019, marking the first time the team will see post-season play in over a decade. The quarterfinal match against Penn State New Kensington in the Penn State University Athletic Conference playoffs will kick off at 4:00 pm.  PSU New Kensington (8-5) is the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a 7-2 record in PSUAC play. Scranton, the No. 6 seed, finished the regular season with a record of 3-8-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the PSUAC.

Junior midfielder Michael Foder and junior forward Christian Toussaint lead the Scranton offense this season with 6 goals each, ranking them both in the top 12 in the conference in goals and points. Sophomore goalkeeper Clayton Martin backs up the Scranton defense, ranking 2nd in the PSUAC in overall saves with 109 in the regular season. Scranton traveled to New Kensington earlier this season, suffering a 3-1 loss on the road in September.


Wednesday's other quarterfinal match-up showcases fourth-seeded Penn State Lehigh Valley hosting fifth-seeded Penn State Mont Alto. The winner of the Scranton-New Kensington game will face the second seed, Penn State Beaver, on Saturday, while the other quarterfinal winner will face Penn State Brandywine. The semifinal winners will meet in the championship game Wednesday, Oct. 30 on the main campus of Penn State University.
