Lions take down New Ken for first conference win of the season, 123-113

Penn State Scranton held off a second half surge by Penn State New Kensington to pull out their first conference win of the season, 123-113. New Kensington went on a 9-1 run in the opening minutes of the contest building the early lead but it would not last as Scranton began to heat up offensively cutting into the lead. The Lions would shoot themselves back into the game tying the score at 21-21 at the 11:05 mark in the first half. Shortly following the tie Scranton took control of the lead and never looked back, going into the locker room with a 56-47 advantage, following a half court buzzer beater by sophomore guard, Arel Lamour.

The second half would see the lead extended as high as 24 points for Penn State Scranton, but Penn State New Kensington kept fighting trying to chip away at the deficit, however the Lions proved too much for the visitors as they would get as close as 10 giving Scranton their first conference win of the year. Leading the way for the Lions with a double-double was junior forward, Tom Gonzales with a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds and Arel Lamour also with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds. Rounding out the effort was freshman guard, Cameron Jordan with 19 points, freshman guard, London Jeter with 17 points and sophomore guard, Mike Foder with 15 points for Scranton.

Penn State New Kensington was led by their freshmen guards, Brent Ivory with a game-high double-double 32 points and 10 rebounds and Jakob Richardson with a double-double 26 points and 13 rebounds. Also, Lamar Lewis and Thomas Gilmore added 25 and 16 points for New Kensington.

The Lions are set to host Penn State Shenango tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 at 2:00 PM.
