Kayla Cavanaugh
Kayla Cavanaugh, Junior HDFS major and starting gaurd for the Penn State Scranton's Women's Basketball Team, has been staking her claim from the three point arc this season. Shooting 57% from the arc and averaging about 20 points per game Kayla sits in the top spot in the USCAA 3 point percentage rankings and has been named PSUAC Player of the Week this week!
Kayla continues to build on her success from last season when she earned PSUAC All Conference Honorable Mention and has improved with every game. Last week Kayla scored half the teams points as they over came Davis College 79-71 at home, dropping an amazing 39 points, 27 of them from beyond the 3 point line. Two days later on the road Kayla struck again with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Lions swept past Mont Alto 76-51.
Always athletic, Kayla started playing basketball and soccer around age 5 and softball since age 7. Kayla continued to play basketball throughout her high school career for Riverside, where she played with fellow Lady Lion teammates Jess and Danielle Segilia. Kayla notes that she is happy the three of them got to stick together on the court for so long. Undoubtably, the three have chemistry on the court and you can see it in their game.
In addition to PSWS Basketball Kayla plans to return to the field playing softball in the spring for the Lady Lions. Kayla, who ranks high in the USCAA and PSUAC while maintaining steady grades having completed an internship, plays with the motto, " Never give up. Even if the result is not what you want, at least you gave it your all."
To see Kayla and the rest of the Lady Lions in action come to the PSU Scranton gym Wednesday night at 6pm as they face PSU Wilkes Barre!
