Kasson keeping pace entering 2017 cross country season

Today we sat down with Alicia Kasson, a top female performer in the 2016 season for Penn State Scranton.  Kasson, who not only finished first place in last years PSUAC Championship meet earning her way to the USCAA Nationals in Virginia Beach, she became the first female from PSU Scranton to earn the top spot at the conference meet since 2010 and set a home course record in the season.  Alicia tells Athletic's about her hopes for the season and where she wants her team to be come November.

PSU Scranton Athletics: Do you have any personal goals this year?

Alicia: Yes! My personal goal is to break 27:00 in the 6k at Penn State Mont Alto!  ( Alicia finsihed the PSUAC Championship 6k course at PSU Mont Alto last year in 1st place at 27:57.) I want to be a 2-time PSUAC women's cross country champion.

PSU Scranton Athletics: That is a great goal! How about any team goals? Is there anything you hope to accomplish together?

Alicia: Team wise I would like for the womens team to win the PSUAC Championship! I want us to qualify together for the National Championship in Virginia Beach in November.

PSU Scranton Athletics:  That is a great team goal! Is there any one particular race you are most looking forward to?

Alicia: I am looking forward to our home meet on September 30, 2017, The Nittany Lion Invitational.  I am hoping to beat my course record from last year at that meet.  I am also looking forward to the USCAA Nationals in Virgina Beach, VA.  It was a great team bonding experience last year and the location is beautiful!

PSU Scranton Athletics:  Let's talk about where you think is the best spot for any fans to watch the home meet on September 30. What do you think is the best location for anyone who wants to get a birds eye view of the action on campus?

Alicia: The best location to watch our race at home is probably along the road that connects the upper and lower parking lots from the gym to the soccer field.  From there you are able to see a majority of the course as we come down from the top of the course and up from the lower portion in the woods behind the fields. You can also see the finish line from here and walk over to the start and end of the race.

PSU Scranton Athletics : Thank you for talking with us today Alicia! We look forward to watching you and the rest of the cross country team compete this year! Good luck with your personal and team goals and we will see you at the end of September at our home meet!
