Jessica Segilia

Senior starter for PSU Scranton's Women's Basketball team Jess Segilia is anything but ordinary.  Since she arrived at PSWS three years ago Jess has been the leading scorer for the team, gaining notoriety in the PSUAC as she held top ranks in categories like assists, three point percentage and points per game in the past three seasons.  Last year Jess made history as she not only topped the PSUAC and USCAA in points per game, she was honored with USCAA All Academic Team, PSUAC All Conference , PSUAC Academic All Conference, USCAA All American and PSUAC Co-Player of the Year all in the same season. Jess was also awarded with the Athletic Departments Kelly Sledzinski Memorial Award for achieving great things both academically and athletically while being a great role model on and off the court.  The Greater Scranton Penn State Chapter also named Jess Female Athlete of the year in 2013 after she helped lead the team to a PSUAC Northern Division Championship.  Jessica's potential seems endless in all facets of her college career.

This season Jess once again leads the PSUAC and the USCAA in points per game, she is currently ranked in the top five in assists and 3 point percentage as well.  This past Saturday at PSU Schuylkill Jess hit her 1000th career point with her team by her side.  In her final season at Penn State Jess is making every move count.  "I am excited that my team is playing our best basketball at the right time of the year and we are striving for another shot at the playoffs," Jessica says.  Jessica said she considers her 1000th point not a personal victory but a team victory.

This past fall Jessica stepped into a different uniform on the court when her fellow Lady Lions Volleyball team was in need of players. Always wanting to help out Jess played volleyball for the first time and ended up earning a USCAA All Academic Award and a PSUAC Academic All Conference Award for the season.  During her time on the team she was coached by Assistant Softball and Volleyball coach Larry Ellett.  Larry made an imact on all of the young ladies he coached before he passed away last month and Jess and the ladies on the basketball team are playing the rest of the season for him, wearing initials "LE" on their shoes and black bands on their arms, always keeping him in their hearts and minds.

Jess will graudate this year in HDFS from Penn State Scranton and with that leave a lasting impact on her teammates, friends and fellow students.  Show your support for Jessica as she is honored this Friday at Senior Night during the PINK ZONE game against Penn College.  She will be presented with her 1000th point ball and recognized for all her achievments before tip-off of the women's game at 6 pm.
