Student-Athletes recognized at annual Awards Dinner

Dunmore, PA The Penn State Scranton's Honors program held its annual Awards Dinner and Convocation on Sunday, April 28, 2019 in The View Café. The event highlights students accomplishments in academics, presenting Honors Certificates and named awards in various colleges. 

Penn State Scranton Athletics was represented by student-athletes who performed at the top of their class.  Tom Gonzales (junior-men's basketball) took home five awards after the ceremony; The Evan Pugh Scholar Award, given to those in the top 0.05 of their class, The Outstanding Scholar Award for the highest GPA, Academic Excellence Awards in Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences, and a first year Honors Certificate.  Lauren Sciabbarrasi (sophomore – softball) earned three awards, The Outstanding Scholar Award, The Evan Pugh Scholar Award, and a second year Honors Certificate.  Senior Cross Country teammates Cheyenne Tussel and Kyle Franceski both earned third year Honors Certificates, an award that was presented with a special pin and sash for graduation.  Lucy Adams (freshman- women's soccer) earned a first year Honors Certificate and the Presidents Freshman Award, an award recognizing freshman with a 4.0 GPA.  Aron Tegaskis (sophomore-men's soccer) earned a first year honors certificate and Matt Hayner (senior-men's soccer) and Robert Murphy (junior-men's cross country) both received second year honors certificates.  Shawn Kane (senior-men's soccer) was presented with the Walter Webber Memorial Award, recognizing an outstanding student who excels in theater or speech communications and achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA. 

Next weekend PSU Scranton Athletics will be celebrating 15 of their senior student-athletes as they walk the stage at the Scranton Cultural Center during graduation.
